Graham Bell commentates on the incredible London Triathlon

Graham Bell with participants of the Virgin Active Triathlon

Graham was on hand to cheer on the 13,000 competitors at this year's Virgin Active London Triathlon. This annual event, held in the Excel Exhibition Centre and viewed by an estimated 30,000 spectators, is the largest triathlon in the world, and this year hopes to have raised over a million pounds for the participants' selected charities.

The distances covered varied from the Super Sprint; a 400m swim, 10km Bike ride and 2.5 km run, to the Olympic Plus; consisting of a 1500 swim, 80km bike ride and 10km run. Of the professional athletes, the Men's winner was Greg Rouault, who thanked second and third placed Stuart Hayes and Mark Buckingham for creating such an intensively competitive contest.

The Women's race was won by Jodie Stimpson, just over a year after the Olympic Games for which she did not qualify. Since that disappointment, Stimpson has being going from strength to strength, finishing on the podium four times, and claiming her first victory earlier this month. In the London Triathlon she clearly demonstrated why she is currently ranked second in the world.

Famous names included Spice Girl Melanie Chisholm, Welsh Rugby Star Gareth Thomas, and Mark Ramprakesh. TV's Louis Spence, Stavros Flatley, Dave Webster and Zoe Hardman also competed, and all finished strongly.

Graham provided coverage of the event along with Matt Chilton and triathlon coach Steve Trew in a show anchored by Craig Doyle.
